Hi Lisa

Sounds like you're going through the wars.

ADD is not going to explain everything going on in your life. My suggestion is to print this off and show your doctor. Diarise some of the things you're doing. Maybe you need a physical check-up if you've been on medication for a long time and to rule out other causes for your problems. Maybe its time to review the dosage or even the type of medication best for you from now on.

"I really hate who i've become"

Don't beat yourself up about it. You are recognising behaviours and want to change SO you are not crazy. Aderall, like any medication expected to do a lot, WILL have side effects. Its impossible to say if this is what is happening to you as it needs a face-to-face with your own doctor. "emotional lability" is a known side effect.

Aderall is the sort of medication you shouldn't mix without your doctor knowing what else you take with or without a prescription. Understand? Even simple stuff like some fruit juice may possibly reduce the effect of the medication.

If its ADD or ADHD you have, it's not only about medication. Sometimes teenagers don't do as well as adults on some medications. By that I mean you probably need to learn some techniques to handle stress and anger issues. All of us can benefit from these sorts of skills. Think of it like school study. Some pick up skills easier than others.

Take care.

Hi Lisa,

First off, you are not crazy!

All drugs have unwanted effects, which is one reason not to take them unless you absolutely have to.

Some of the adverse effects for Adderall listed in my Nurse Practitioners' Prescribing Reference are ...

*emotional instability,
*psychosis (a major psychiatric condition)
*sleep problems,
*nervousness

You could be having an adverse reaction...

The Federal Drug Administration is requiring the producers of ADHD drugs to put a black box label on these drugs because they are causing suicides/suicidal thoughts, heart conditions, and psychiatric symptoms such as psychosis.

I posted an article on that new ruling on this web site. You'll also find many other ways on this web site to help you other than drugs. You might want to read some of the articles and try some of the suggestions.

Also, talk to your health care practitioner about getting off drugs. Just switching you to another ADHD drug isn't going to help because they all have adverse effects. If he or she is only open to prescribing drugs, you may want to find someone with a more open approach such as a naturopath or a mental health nursing specialist who can help you with nutrition, stress management skills, assertiveness skills (so you handle anger as it occurs and don't let it add up until you blow up), and couple communication.

Keep me posted on what happens. You can email me on any page that has one of my articles on it or just click on my name below and it will take you to my author page; click on Contact Me to the right. You can also go down that column and click on All My Articles and everything I've written on ADHD ADD will pop up for you.

Stay Well,
